Note 1: If a facility has more than 55 children in care, then it is suggested there be at least one administrative support besides the director (who should not be caring for children). If there is not adequate administrative support checks / payments are lost, supplies are not ordered (the bathroom is without toilet paper, the teacher is without paint, etc.

Usually, a lack of administrative support will greatly increase the stress level of the staff and have a rippling effect to the children.

Note 2: In child care centers and group homes, and family environments which are required to be licensed, most States require the license be hung on the wall, in plain view.  However it is usually not easy to read (place a little too high). Check to ensure it is current - if it is not current the facility does not have any insurance coverage (all providers lapse coverage when the license lapses!). If later things do not appear or "feel" 'right' you will know where the licenses is and you can look at it to ensure it is still current.

Most States also require any violation notices be hung near the license.  Check for them.  Most States will allow the facility a period of time to correct any non-life threatening violations.
