In 1992 the YMCA and the King of
Prussia Chamber of Commerce at Valley Forge co-founded this child care
center. In April 2000, the YMCA decided to close the child care center, as
they did not want to operate a site which was a child care only. A parent
of one of the children formed For Kid's Sake Child Care & Learning Center, Inc.
(FKS) and purchased the centers assets and assumed the lease. Most of the staff who worked
for the YMCA transferred to new company. This allowed the children in care to maintain consistent care
givers, an extremely important element for the emotional security of the
children. More than seven years later, many of these staff members are
still part of the For Kid's Sake Family. This is amazing in an industry
with an average staff turnover of 50% per year. We believe in treating
people "right", our staff as well as our parents and children entrusted to
our care.
In May of 2001 our landlord raised our rent 10% a year for every year of a
five year lease!!! There was no way we could afford to pay the increased
rent! So, we purchased a
building located just one mile from our original location. The building we
purchased was previously a child care center, but we felt the property needed
serious renovations to allow us to deliver the quality service the children in
our care need and deserve. We invested over $250,000 in renovating the
property and relocated on December 1st 2001,
without missing one day of child care service (many thanks to our hard working
staff and parents)!!
In June 2005 we had the privilege of graduating our Initial Kindergarten
class. A number of children in this class had been with us from the
initial days of the center. We had the pleasure of watching them from a
few weeks / months of age through completion of Kindergarten. Many of
return during school holidays to visit for a day and show off how much more they
have grown. They are happy to find teachers from all of the classrooms
still here to greet them and be impressed by how much they have grown.
The name of the center and the logo were chosen with care and
consideration. They represent our goals and values:
For Kid's Sake Child Care & Learning Center. We are here to
provide excellent care, which includes a kind, loving environment. Where
children are taught many things, but most of all we want them to love to learn,
so they spend a life time learning and having fun. As the logo says:
Kindness Friendship
Learning Playing Laughing
Caring Sharing Reading
