Many regulations apply to child care providers, however the requirements governing the number of children to a caregiver, the education and training of caregivers, the environment and the consistency of the caregivers have a have a significant impact on your child's sense of well being and security.  Many of these same factors drive the cost establishing and maintaining a child day care.

This web site is targeted at helping you to understand child day care choices, how to improve your child's day care and how to locate other child day care choices.

Understanding the underlying state requirements can help you to judge the quality of care and to spot trouble signs early.

In most states there are three types of child care settings outside a child’s home: Family Care, Group Home Care (Some states do not have a category for Group Home Care) and Center base care.

On the following pages are summaries of some key regulations.  For your convenience links to the full regulations are provided.
